ILRIG seeks to fill two full-time staff positions as follows: 

Researcher & Educator – position based in Cape Town (with hybrid, office-home work plan).

Media & Communications – position based in either Cape Town (with hybrid office-home work plan) or in Johannesburg (working out of home)

Researcher & Popular Educator

Applications are invited from individuals, 

  • who have demonstrated skills and work experience conducting research, popular education and writing
  • who have experience working with community activists  and organisations
  • who are capable of undertaking quality, short and long-term research
  • who have demonstrated experience and capabilities of designing and conducting popular education workshops as well as other related events,
  • who can take self-initiative 
  • who can work collaboratively and contribute to critical thought,
  • who are willing to work on weekends/outside normal hours if necessary
  • with an activist and work background that shows a commitment to social justice, and the struggle for a different society and world
  • who possess general knowledge of developments and struggles within the working class/poor communities in South Africa, and elsewhere.

Media & Communications

Applications are invited from individuals,

  • who possess general skills related to, have work experience in, and knowledge of, the media-communications sector, especially within activist civil society 
  • who possesses general knowledge and skills centred on website management, as well as the distribution and marketing of publications 
  • who have specific skills and work experience related to organisational communications, writing articles for the media and the use of social media for civil society organisations
  • who have demonstrated experience and capabilities of creating-designing media-publications content 
  • who can take self-initiative but can also work collaboratively and contribute to critical thought,
  • who are willing to work on weekends/outside normal hours if necessary
  • who has a commitment to social justice, and the struggle for a different society and world

The remuneration for both positions consists of an annual salary of R425 000 before tax. Over and above this, staff are provided with medical aid and a provident fund.
